How the slanting of information creates a false picture

A quick not before we proceed: if you are unfortunate enough to be one of the statistically tiny number of people who catch COVID 19, and the even tinier fraction who cop a severe dose of it due to some other underlying physical problem, then COVID19 – like the apparently more prevalent pneumonia [about 220,000 cases diagnosed every year] and many other ailments – is going to be an unpleasant experience]. That is not in question. What is being challenged by a growing army of people is whether it is acceptable for government and media to blatantly lie (which they have been caught out doing time after time on just about every aspect of this illness) so as to create and perpetuate a false picture and hyped up threat that is then used to “justify” the confiscation of traditional freedoms and the destructiuon of livelihoods.
So much in life is a matter of viewpoint, of how you decide to see things or where you are looking at them from. The following is a bit hypothetical but I started wondering . . .
Let’s take an example of someone who is very ill with, say cancer.
There they are extremely poorly with their immune system shot to hell and so forth.
Along comes the COVID19 virus thingy and they catch it.
Because they are in a weakened condition from the cancer the bug does what it cannot do to a person not already dying from a disease and “kills” them.
So we say that COVID 19 killed them. by infecting them when they were weakened by cancer.
But we could equally correctly say that the cancer killed them by rendering them so weak that a not normally fatal bug was able to prove fatal.
Take someone with a weak heart and give them a mild fright (jump out and say “boo” or something) and they have a heart attack and die. A mild fright is not deadly, it is not a killer UNLESS some other condition has weakened the person so that they cannot withstand it. One could say the mild fright killed them. Or one could say they died of heart disease.
So it is a matter of viewpoint or whatever propaganda message you want to get across as to whether you say they were killed by the cancer or killed by the virus.
The media of course take the former tack and promote the virus as “deadly”. You see this often, the “deadly” virus . But is it correct to describe it as deadly when it can only kill people when they are in an already weakened condition on account of something else that is deadly?
Another crude analogy would be suppose you had some nutter who went around shoving people off the sidewalk under buses. So there is a spate of people being killed by buses.
So you could make a big thing of “all these people killed by buses” and make people see buses as “deadly.” All these deadly buses rushing about and so forth so we should all be afraid of buses and avoid them at all costs.
All you have to do is not mention or play down the role of the bloke who goes around shoving people under buses and you have an “epidemic of killer buses” on your hands.
