Barriers to Survival

Essay eleven in the series, Lighten the Load

This is Essay Eleven in the series Lighten the Load, a back-to-basics re-think of government. What should a government be and do? What should it definitely NOT be and do? Is it even necessary at all? If so, how much and why? How do we decide, against what criteria?

Barriers to Survival

by Steve Cook

Barriers to Man’s survival fall into two categories:

(a) barriers presented by the environment

(b) barriers created by Man.

We live upon a small planet whirling in a chaotic universe and survive between delicately balanced tolerances: the material environment poses sufficient threat to provide Man with all the challenge he needs, without his adding another.

Yet add another he does, and in so doing risks overwhelm by just too many challenges to survival.

Through war and other malicious inhibitions of the human team-effort, man introduces himself as a suppressor of his own survival potential.

Perhaps we are the first species that ever faced extinction by its own hand. By the same token, we are the first species that was ever equipped to adopt a truly causative, self-willed position towards its own survival. The choice is ours.

When we say Man suppresses Man’s survival, we mean more specifically that some men turn Man towards a suppression of his own survival. And to do so is insane.

The true foe of man is not other men. It is non-application of reason.

Our salvation therefore is not to obliterate other people or have them obliterate us.

It is to reason.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
