The Financial Burden: Cash and Accommodation
One of the biggest concerns surrounding illegal migration is the huge cost to the taxpayer. The government provides weekly cash payments and accommodation, mostly in hotels.
Weekly Support Costs
Cash Payments: Each asylum seeker receives approximately £49 per week cash, and £1,015 for hotel costs. If food is provided by the accommodation, this amount may be reduced, but the overall cost remains substantial.
Annual Costs
Over a year, the numbers become staggering:
- Cash Payments: £32 million per year
- Hotel Bills: £670 million per year
These figures are based solely on those who have arrived this year, not the estimated 1.2 million people believed to be in the country illegally. The true cost is likely even higher.
