Border. What Border?

Border. What border?

We began last week’s newsletter with a gripe—there hadn’t been much immigration news. We spoke too soon. The last seven days have been full of immigration-related headlines, including: the sentencing and debate about Axel Rudakubana; one in 12 people in London are illegal migrants; 71% of voters think immigration has been too high – including 68% of Labour voters; and the failure of police forces to record the ethnic minority background of criminals.

A lot has been written and said about Rudakubana and the, seemingly, missed opportunities to stop him before he murdered three innocent little girls and attempted to murder ten others. The life sentence, with the judge’s direction that he serves a minimum of 52 years before he becomes eligible for parole was severe but was it severe enough? Will he ever be released? Who knows?

Were we misled by ministers—including the Prime Minister and Home Secretary, as well as the police—in the aftermath of Radukabana’s murderous attack? The Prime Minister And Home Secretary’s explanation and why they acted as they did came over asp retty lame. Meanwhile, according to Sir Mark Rowley, the Met Police Chief, Rudakubana’s attack was “not an act of terrorism”. This is what he said to Nick Ferrari on LBC. We can only assume that Sir Mark took advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions before saying what he did. There will be a lot of ordinary people who will beg to differ, Sir Mark.

Let us see what comes out of the inquiry announced Sir Keir Starmer. What we don’t need is months and months of tedious grandstanding and buck-passing, with the customary “learning of lessons” report at the end of it. Yvette Cooper said when the inquiry was announced that the families of victims “need answers”. They do Home Secretary, as does the wider public, who were not all driven by “far-right hatred” in the aftermath of Rudakubana’s murderous, bloody attack.

Do we have a border?

On Wednesday, we read in the Daily Telegraph that one in 12 people in our capital city (now more a mirror on the world than the United Kingdom) are illegal migrants. It seems the number was based on work done for Thames Water. This was not a major revelation as far as we were concerned. The London School of Economics did some research for the Greater London Authority (when Boris Johnson was Mayor) 15 years ago. They estimated the “irregular” population of London then to be a median figure of about 650,000 (450k-850k). Our conservative estimate of the overall current number of illegal migrants in the UK is in the region of 1.5-2 million; the bulk (around 60%) of whom will be in the capital. There could well be, therefore, between 900,000 and 1.2 million illegal migrants in London.

A part of the population of this magnitude, in the shadows and off the books, has huge implications for services, the NHS, GP surgeries, public transport, congestion and schools. Sir Sadiq Khan seems to think this is fine because they are all Londoners and they are all welcome. No, Mr Mayor, they are not, and they are not.

Some folk may recall reports last October about the UK having more migrants than any other European country, here’s the Daily Telegraph’s story “Britain is home to more illegal immigrants than any other European nation.” The figure of 745,000 in the report appeared to be from 2017 data and similar to the lower figure in the range 800,000-1.2 million published by Pew Research in 2018. In the wake of the Pew Research findings, we looked at the likely annual change to the number of migrants here illegally. Readers may have read our paper. We estimated a net addition of 70,000 per year to the illegal population. 70,000 was a cautious figure—it was probably higher, but we erred on the side of caution. It’s impossible to be precise but if the number of illegal migrants in the UK in 2017 was around 1 million, as we believe it was, its size today is likely to be closer to 1.5 million-2 million people.

NB, children born to those here illegally also have no right to be here. They are not British citizens by virtue of being born here. Add this to current annual net migration of over 700,000 and no surprise that the latest YouGov poll shows that 70% of the public think immigration has been too high. How long can the government go on ignoring such public concern?

GBNews asked us to comment on the YouGov poll. Here’s what Alp said:

Public concern about immigration is longstanding and has now reverted to the levels we saw before the electorate were fooled into believing it was going to be controlled and reduced. We warned that was never going to happen with the ridiculously lax immigration system introduced after Brexit. We also warned that failure to control immigration and reduce immigration would further erode trust in politicians and our political system. It gives me no satisfaction to say we were right. Sir Keir Starmer and Yvette Cooper would do well to regard this poll as another red flag and get a grip of both legal and illegal immigration.”

Finally, a certain inauguration took place on the other side of the Atlantic this week. We congratulate President Trump and wish him success—not just as the President of the United States, our closest and most powerful ally, but as leader of the West. As for immigration, we will be taking a close interest in not only what happens at the border with Mexico but regarding the masses of illegal migrants already in the US.

MWUK in the media

Our President and joint co-founder, Lord Andrew Green of Deddington, made an intervention in the House of Lords this week on our broken border. His video has already amassed more than 55,000 views on YouTube. You can watch his speech below.

We were quoted in the Times here, the Telegraph here and here again.

What can you do?

Following the events and government comment and platitudes this week on a variety of immigration related issues, we are more determined than ever to keep up the pressure. The government have to start thinking seriously about the dangerously (yes, really) high levels of immigration – legal and illegal.

Border, what border? The three words that sum up where we are. Thank you for your continuing support. With your help we will keep up the pressure by drawing attention to this vital issue, of critical importance to the future of our country.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
