In a stunning demonstration of public outrage, the Great British PAC’s petition to halt the ratification of the controversial Chagos Islands deal has garnered more than 3,000 signatures overnight — less than 12 hours after its launch.
The petition calls on Parliament to reject the deal to cede the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, citing concerns over racism, national sovereignty, environmental destruction, taxpayer burden, and the abandonment of the Chagossian people.
The deal, which has been signed by the UK Government but not yet ratified by Parliament, would hand over control of the Chagos Archipelago — a vital British Overseas Territory — without lawful consultation, without a public mandate, and without any guarantees for the Chagossian people, many of whom are British citizens. MPs are due to vote on the deal in a few weeks time.
“There is no way to describe the Chagos deal other than a complete surrender of British territory — without a single shot fired,” said Ben Habib, Chairman of the Great British PAC. “It is a betrayal of our country and of Chagossians.”
The petition warns that the agreement would not only cost billions in taxpayer money, but also poses a grave environmental threat to one of the world’s most pristine marine ecosystems — a sanctuary for endangered whales, turtles, and migratory species.
Claire Bullivant, CEO of the Great British PAC, issued a powerful call to action:
“This is the last chance saloon. MPs must understand: the British people are not happy. This deal is undemocratic, environmentally catastrophic, and politically shameful. It must be stopped. We are watching closely and we will remember how every single MP votes.”
The petition has ignited support across the political spectrum, uniting voices around the principles of justice, national sovereignty, and environmental protection. With a growing number of signatories and mounting public pressure, the Great British PAC is urging Parliament to act decisively and block the ratification of the deal.
The PAC warns that history will not look kindly on those who vote to abandon the Chagossians and relinquish strategic UK territory under pressure from foreign interests.
Petition Highlights:
- Calls on Parliament to stop the handover of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius;
- Opposes billions in UK taxpayer funding with no democratic consent;
- Demands protection for the Chagossian people and their right to return home;
- Seeks to preserve one of the most ecologically vital ocean habitats in the world;
- Insists on accountability from every MP involved in the vote.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
