Oh, the Irony! Brexit Britain’s Trump Trade Boost Exposes Starmer and Lefty Media’s Hypocrisy

CP

For years, news outlets like The Financial Times and politicians like Keir Starmer dismissed Brexit as a disaster, scoffing at the idea that Britain could strike lucrative trade deals outside the EU.

But now, in an astonishing twist, they are scrambling to claim credit as Donald Trump signals a major economic boost for the UK—all thanks to Brexit.

In a landmark White House meeting, Trump confirmed that the US and UK are working on a new trade deal and even hinted that Britain could dodge tariffs if a deal is reached—while the EU faces a looming 25% tariff hammer blow.

“We could very well end up with a real trade deal where the tariffs wouldn’t be necessary,” Trump said.

It’s an outcome that the Remain-backing elite said was impossible—a clear Brexit dividend that gives the UK a unique advantage over the EU. But will Starmer and his allies in the pro-Brussels press admit they were wrong?

Brexit Britain Gets the Deal Brussels Can’t

Trump’s comments came just a day after he threatened to slap a 25% tariff on EU exports and announced new duties on goods from Canada, Mexico, and China. But crucially, he made it clear the UK is “a very different place” from the EU—a significant shift that could open the door to a post-Brexit trade win.

It’s a major coup for Britain’s economic independence, proving once again that Brexit has freed the UK from the shackles of Brussels’ slow-moving bureaucracy.

UK officials confirmed they are working on a phased economic and technology partnership with the US—though not a full-blown free trade agreement just yet. But the potential tariff exemption alone is a huge economic advantage that would have been impossible inside the EU.

Will Starmer and the FT Ever Admit They Were Wrong?

The hypocrisy is staggering.

Starmer and publications like the Guardian and Financial Times fought tooth and nail against Brexit. They dismissed promises of a US trade deal as “fantasy” and ridiculed the idea that Britain could thrive outside the EU.

Yet now, they are bending over backwards to secure a deal with Trump—the very deal that Brexiteers always said was possible.

The same politicians and media figures who sneered at Brexit Britain are suddenly championing a UK-US economic partnership. But will they ever admit it? Don’t hold your breath.

Starmer Courts Trump While Ukraine Security Deal Falters

Despite the trade breakthrough, the White House meeting was not without tension.

Trump rejected demands from European leaders to provide US military guarantees for Ukraine, instead insisting that American business investments in Ukraine’s mineral sector would act as a deterrent to Russian aggression.

“We are a backstop because we’ll be over there, we’ll be working in the country,” Trump said, before adding: “That’s a great thing economically for them.”

It’s a position that will raise eyebrows in European capitals but reflects Trump’s longstanding scepticism of endless military aid.

Starmer, who is set to meet European leaders in London soon, has been left in an awkward position—unable to secure clear US security guarantees for Ukraine.

Trump’s Warm Words for Britain—But Can Starmer Capitalise?

Despite policy differences, Trump made clear his longstanding admiration for the UK, calling Starmer a “special man”and accepting an invitation from King Charles for a state visit to Scotland.

“I’ve always cared about the British. They don’t need much help; they can take care of themselves,” Trump said—before adding: “If they need help, I’ll always be with the British.”

It’s the kind of personal diplomacy that Britain hasn’t enjoyed under previous US administrations—and something that could prove invaluable if the UK can strike a unique trade arrangement with Washington.

Brexit Britain, once mocked by Remainers, is suddenly in a stronger position than the EU—but will those who fought to keep Britain tied to Brussels finally admit they were wrong?

Don’t bet on it. But we all know they were.
