The global Network of Liberty has since around 1955, been seeking exits from democracy and what it views as big government interventionism. The UK duopoly has recently reincarnated Thatcher’s SEZs on the back of Brexit because her SEZs came up against the EU’s rules on State aid (which is public money) that prevent Govts of member states from providing support to specific companies https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn06775/
WTO rules on State aid are more flexible but think about why that is the case. The default position in WTO rules is that subsidies are generally allowed, while EU rules consider subsidies to be generally illegal. Policymakers have to make sure that support is legal through making it compliant with guidelines set out at EU level. Brexit meant the UK Govt could seize on the opportunity to exploit State aid and give it to companies of their own choosing, this is illegal in the EU.
What Sunak and Starmer have done is jointly facilitate the final transfer of public wealth into private hands to install ‘localised freedoms’ via zoning by carving out whole swathes of territories readying them for corporate takeover. The first things to go are public services which are considered ‘small potatoes’ to libertarians, these include bankrupted councils and their assets, the aim is to monopolize competition in an unlevel playing field to distort markets and eventually ‘rescue’ democracy from its failings.
Enter Starmer’s Govt partnership with US Blackrock who pretty much own everything.
The ATLAS Network was formed in 1981 by Antony Fisher, who founded the IEA in 1955 under the advice of Friedrich Hayek. ATLAS has been described as right-wing think tank that creates right-wing think tanks.
Our so-called representative political parties have worked together to install capitalism without democracy, the MSM chooses not to thoroughly investigate these developments and expose these corporate-bought charlatans as serious agitators and disruptors of social democracy. It is not possible that the malign influence of these think tanks does not shape govt policy while also having long-term impacts on otherwise progressive policies of the left.
Starmer’s Labour Party is in favour of deregulated Special Economic Zones, they backed the Tories on SEZs and signed off with them as board members of Sunak and Truss’s SEZs/Freeports consortia between 2021 and 2022. The free zone licenses were set by Jeremy Hunt at 25 years with 10-year tax breaks for corporations, companies are already pushing to extend the deadlines on corporate tax breaks.
When corporations are allowed by governments to ‘self-regulate’ inside ring-fenced borders, you have a recipe for disaster, a recession ensues as profits are onshored in the zones. SEZs are all about creating zones of exception to the host country’s laws and regulations. The zone is how you eventually privatise an entire country as economies outside the perimeters atrophy and are forced to adopt the corporate political model.
