Putting Folic Acid into Flour is Folly – but the UK Government will do it in 2026
RHODA WILSON
The UK Government plans to add folic acid to non-wholemeal wheat flour from the end of 2026 to prevent rare neural tube defects in babies.
Pregnant women are not taking the recommended supplements and so the entire population will be subjected to supplementation through our bread. Why is this a problem? Because, Dr. Vernon Coleman points out, too much folic acid in our diet has negative health consequences.
The UK government has decided to add folic acid, also known as vitamin B9, to non-wholemeal wheat flour to help prevent life-threatening spinal conditions in babies. The decision follows a public consultation and is expected to prevent around 200 neural tube defects each year. The addition of folic acid to flour is already practised in over 80 countries, including Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
“Over 99% of British households buy bread and over a quarter of all groceries in the four biggest supermarkets contain flour, making adding folic acid to flour-based products a simple way to increase folate levels for tens of millions of people across the UK,” a 2021 press release from the UK government said.
Starting from the end of 2026, the Government proposes adding 250 microgrammes of folic acid per 100 grammes of flour. However, as Dr. Vernon Coleman explains, if pregnant women took their folic acid tablets as recommended, there would be no need to add it to our food.
The problem with adding folic acid to wheat flour, and so affecting the diets of everyone, is that people can have too much. And as Dr. Coleman describes below, too much folic acid has health consequences.
The UK Government is going to put folic acid into non-wholemeal wheat flour at the end of 2026.
The UK Government is adding folic acid to prevent around 200 babies being born with neural tube defects each year – something which could be prevented if pregnant women took their recommended folic acid tablets.
Folic acid does a lot of important stuff, some of it involving DNA and RNA. It’s more important than mobile phones, nail clippers or coconut ice. But if you eat a reasonably balanced diet, you will almost certainly get enough of the stuff. Women who don’t have enough are at risk of having very small babies, possibly, though rarely, with neural tube defects. And, of course and inevitably, it has been alleged that folic acid deficiency may be responsible for autism spectrum disorders. The medical establishment will blame autism on anything except vaccines.
But you can, of course, have too much of a good thing. You can have too much alcohol, too much caviar, too much television and too much folic acid.
One paper has shown that high doses of folic acid taken after pre-neoplastic lesions have been established might promote cancer development and progression.
Another major study found that folic acid supplementation “significantly increased the risks of having three or more adenomas.” A third paper reported a significantly higher cancer incidence, especially of colorectal and other gastrointestinal cancers.
A meta-analysis of six randomised, controlled trials that included a total of 25,738 men found that the risk of prostate cancer was 24% higher in men receiving folic acid supplements than those taking a placebo. There’s much more solid evidence and a conclusion from the National Institutes of Health was that “It seems possible that folic acid supplementation might promote cancer development and progression.” The National Institutes of Health concluded that: “more research is needed to fully understand how dietary folate and supplemental folic acid affect cancer risk …”
Oh, and folic acid supplementation seems associated with lower scores on several tests of cognitive development in children aged 4-5 years. And some scientists have suggested cognitive impairment among older adults.
“These potential negative health consequences are not well understood and warrant further research” concluded the National Institutes of Health, which is, of course, part of the US Government. It has also been suggested that folic acid might reduce the numbers and activity of natural killer cells, thereby affecting the immune system.
Finally, it seems that folate supplements can interact with a number of prescribed drugs. I don’t know if it will be safe with the fluoride they’re putting in the water.

Still, the authorities will no doubt assure us that there is no risk. These will, of course, be the same authorities who lied, lied and lied again about covid, lockdowns, the PCR test and the covid vaccine – and a thousand other things.
The government wants to put folic acid into flour to stop pregnant women who don’t have enough folic acid in their bodies from having babies with a neural tube defect.
Pregnant women, or women contemplating pregnancy, could, of course, just take `free’ folic acid tablets to prevent this happening but some can’t be bothered, presumably preferring to take the risk of having a badly deformed baby than go through the physical and mental torment of taking a pill once a day.
Why would any government in its collective right mind deliberately and cold-bloodedly do something that could cause damage to the health and life of every citizen in order to protect the health of unborn children who can easily be protected if their mothers take a few pills? Either your government doesn’t know what you and I know about folic acid, or they want to kill as many of us as possible.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)

I have nothing but contempt and disgust at gov overreach, it’s stupidity and it’s attempts to corral us all under an umbrella of convenience for the globalists. It’s all doomed to failure… for them. This fact is the only saving grace of their policies.
