How Sharia Courts Blow Apart Starmer’s Denial of Two-Tier Justice

KATHY GYNGELL

IN A week of unusual news intensity, starting with post-mortems on the newly mainstream Reform UK’s largest party conference, moving on to revelations about Lord Mandelson’s close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and ending with the unspeakable horror of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, one important news investigation failed to receive the attention it deserved.

On Monday the Sun reported on the dangerous rise in Sharia courts in UK and revealed how they blow apart Sir Keir Starmer’s claim that there is no two-tier justice in which some communities are treated differently from others.

What the commentator Julie Bindel discovered in her investigation contradicted the denials of both Starmer and his Attorney General, Lord Hermer, who has gone even further by saying the description of the British justice as two-tier is ‘disgusting’.

Just how dangerously wrong they are was exposed by her report into the ‘dangerous rise of Shariah courts’ and horrifying cases of religiously motivated murder, forced marriage and the coercive control of women and girls by family members, all collectively referred to in the UK as ‘honour crime’.

‘What the term “honour crimes” means is that the female victims have been accused of bringing shame to their husband, family and/or wider community,’ explains Bindel.

Research shows that 2,755 ‘honour-based’ offences were recorded in the last year; of these, 111 concerned female genital mutilation (FGM), while 201 related to forced marriage.

Bindel’s research has suggested that FGM may well be being carried out behind closed doors in the private clinics of London’s Harley Street.

She writes: In December 2024, several months after Labour came to power, it was claimed in a major national newspaper investigation that the UK has become the “Western capital” for Sharia courts, which issue religious rulings on marriage and family life.

‘The probe found that an app used by Muslims in England and Wales to create Islamic wills has a drop-down menu for men to select how many wives they have (up to four).

‘Approved by a Sharia court — a panel of male Islamic scholars — it reportedly ensures that daughters will receive only half as much inheritance as sons.’

This is a mere sample of her critique.  The full article is an important read and can be found here. It is not behind a paywall.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
