Why is no one talking about the most dangerous clause in the UK–Mauritius Chagos deal? Why is the media silent, and Parliament asleep, while the Labour frontbench hands over control of a vital military base to a nation legally banned from allowing nuclear weapons?
Because that’s exactly what’s happening… and Keir Starmer and David Lammy are the architects of this historic blunder.
While they smile for the camera and lecture the world on international law, a strategic catastrophe is unfolding quietly under their watch — one that will cripple the US and Britain’s nuclear reach in the Indian Ocean.
A Deterrent Unravelling
In May, Labour proudly hailed a “diplomatic success” as Starmer agreed to transfer sovereignty of the Chagos Archipelago to Mauritius, with Diego Garcia, the crown jewel of Britain’s strategic global presence, at its heart.
But there’s a catch. A massive, glowing, nuclear-sized catch.
Mauritius is a signatory to the Pelindaba Treaty, which bans not just the use, but the presence, stationing, or transport of nuclear weapons on its territory.
Which means that once this transfer is completed, even with a lease in place, the UK and US will no longer be legally allowed to keep nuclear-capable submarines, bombers, or weapons at Diego Garcia.
This is not speculation. This is treaty law. And Labour knew this when they signed the deal. Shadow Foreign Secretary Dame Priti Patel has been raising the alarm.

Disarmament by Stealth?
So let’s ask the obvious: Are Starmer and Lammy trying to disarm Britain without telling the public? Because it certainly looks that way.
Not a single press briefing from No. 10 or the Foreign Office has addressed this bombshell consequence. Not one mainstream interview has seen Starmer questioned on how this deal affects our nuclear posture. Lammy’s own statements are eerily silent on the issue of deterrence.
And yet the truth is this: once Mauritius takes legal sovereignty of Diego Garcia, the UK will have no lawful right to use the base for nuclear operations, unless Mauritius grants an exemption, which they won’t.
How is this not a national scandal? Who Benefits?
Let’s be brutally honest. The only winners here are China and any adversary watching Britain and America retreat from their most valuable island outpost on that side of the planet.
China has poured resources into the Indian Ocean region, building influence in Sri Lanka, Maldives, and now nudging its way into East Africa. If Britain and the US lose nuclear flexibility at Diego Garcia, Beijing’s job just got a whole lot easier.
And yet Starmer and Lammy seem more concerned with rewriting history than safeguarding Britain’s national security.
Stop Pretending This Is Harmless
Labour supporters will insist: “We still have a lease. The base isn’t closing.” Yes, but this isn’t about closing Diego Garcia — it’s about crippling its usefulness. We can lease the land for 99 years, but sovereignty will rest with Mauritius, and their rules will apply. We won’t be the landlords — we’ll be the tenants, and we’ll be operating under a nuclear ban we didn’t write and can’t control.
Without the ability to station or support nuclear-capable platforms, Diego Garcia is a paper base. Our submarines, strategic bombers, and rapid-deployment options will all be subject to Mauritian approval and Pelindaba restrictions. That’s not sovereignty. That’s servitude.
Not One Word from Starmer
Keir Starmer, who loves to project an image of caution, has said nothing about what this deal means for our nuclear deterrent.
Where’s the defence review?
Where’s the legal assessment?
Where’s the honesty?
Because if Labour knows this deal disarms us in practice, and signed it anyway, then the public has been profoundly misled.
And if they didn’t know? Then the party that wants to run Britain has just blundered into neutering our strategic posture without understanding the consequences.
Britain Must Wake Up
This is not a minor footnote in a diplomatic agreement. It is a massive shift in Britain’s global defence capability, one that could reduce our military influence across half the planet, and give China and other adversaries a freer hand in the Indian Ocean.
And Labour are responsible.
Until Starmer and Lammy give the British people clear answers about what they’ve just signed us into, and how they plan to ensure Diego Garcia remains fully operational for nuclear and strategic defence, the suspicion will only grow:
That they’ve done the unthinkable.
That they’ve disarmed Britain… and didn’t think we’d notice.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
