An elite team of police officers is to monitor social media for anti-migrant sentiment amid fears of fresh summer riots. The Mail has more.
Detectives are set to be drawn from forces around the country as the Government scrambles to crack down on potential violence by flagging up early signs of civil unrest.
It comes amid warnings Britain could face another summer of disorder just 12 months after a wave of riots sparked scenes of chaos following the Southport murders.
The new police division, assembled by the Home Office, will aim to “maximise social media intelligence” after police forces were heavily criticised for their handling of last year’s riots which quickly spread across the country.
There have already been a string of demonstrations outside The Bell Hotel in Epping, Essex, after an asylum seeker was charged with sexually assaulting a 14 year-old girl by allegedly attempting to kiss her.
Protesters and counter-protesters from Stand Up to Racism are due to gather outside the hotel again today, with more demonstrations planned at other migrant hotels across the country.
Essex Police have imposed restrictions to curb any violence or disorder, saying it is necessary and proportionate as there has been repeated serious disruption, violence and harm to the community.
The force said there will be a ban on anyone wearing face coverings and there will be designated sites opposite the hotel for protesters.
A dispersal order will be in effect from 12pm on Sunday until 8am on Monday, covering Epping town centre and nearby transport hubs.

Hotel residents and staff have been advised to remain indoors after 5pm as some experienced verbal and physical harassment, including a resident chased and injured while returning to the hotel, the force added.
Essex Police said there was an “escalation of violence” during protests on July 13th, 17th, 20th and 24th, involving hundreds of people.
The force added that officers were assaulted, missiles were thrown, vehicles were vandalised and the hotel sustained broken windows and graffiti.
Essex Police said on Saturday that two more men have been charged and will appear in court after the disorder.

X users in Britain are reporting that footage of rapidly growing anti-mass migration protests in the country is being blocked.
The development comes as the so called Online Safety Act law came into force for social media companies on Friday.
The law was passed by the previous Conservative government, just one of the many disastrous policies they embraced that led to the leftist Labour Party coming back into power with a massive majority last year.

British users of X shared screenshots of messages that popped up while they attempted to view footage from the protests, which started in Epping after a migrant sexually assaulted a teenage girl and have since spread around the country.
The Online Safety Act came into effect on Friday 25th July and we are already seeing the impact on Free Speech

The Free Speech Union remarked “Our fears appear to have been vindicated on the very first day of the Online Safety Act’s enactment.”
“If you have a standard X account in the UK – presumably the majority of British users – it appears that you may not be able to see any protest footage that contains violence. We’re aware of one censored post that shows an arrest being made,” the post added.
“We warned repeatedly about how censorious this piece of legislation would be,” it concludes.
The age checks are purported to be in place to block children from seeing pornographic content, however, they seem to have been broadened to any content deemed to be violent, or misinformative, at least on X.
