Boris Johnson has launched a scathing attack on Keir Starmer’s Labour government, accusing the Prime Minister of betrayal over plans to edge Britain back into the orbit of the European Union.
In a passionate column in the Daily Mail, the former Prime Minister called on all those who value democracy and the economic independence secured by Brexit to “fight, fight, and fight again” to protect the freedoms voted for in the 2016 referendum.
Johnson lambasted Starmer’s alleged duplicity, highlighting the Labour leader’s pre-election promises to respect Brexit, maintain national independence, and reject a return to the single market or free movement of people. “Millions of people went to the polls believing Brexit was safe under Labour,” he wrote. “It is clear Starmer was taking them for fools.”
Secret Negotiations to Reverse Brexit Gains
The former Conservative leader revealed that Starmer has set up a massive negotiating team in the Cabinet Office, tasked with engaging in talks with the EU early next year. Johnson claims the agenda is nothing short of a surrender to Brussels, with proposals that threaten to erode the sovereignty and economic independence secured through Brexit.
Among the EU’s demands, Johnson highlighted three key threats:
- Fishing Rights: The EU reportedly seeks perpetual access to UK waters just as Britain is set to regain full control of its fisheries in 2026. Johnson called this a blatant attempt to reverse a core Brexit victory, undermining the power and authority Britain has regained.
- Free Movement of People: Johnson warned against a proposed “youth mobility scheme” that would effectively reinstate free movement, granting millions of EU nationals unfettered access to live and work in the UK. “Is this any way to deal with mass immigration? Throwing open the doors again? It’s madness,” he wrote.
- Dynamic Alignment with EU Rules: Perhaps the gravest threat, Johnson argued, lies in the EU’s push for Britain to adopt its agricultural and trade rules, effectively re-entering the single market by stealth. Such alignment, he cautioned, would jeopardise Britain’s ability to strike meaningful free trade deals and cede judicial authority to the European Court.
A Return to EU Failures
Boris also questioned the timing of Starmer’s plans, pointing to the EU’s economic stagnation and rising dissatisfaction across the continent. With France and Germany recording negative growth and far-Right parties gaining traction, Boris argued that Britain should be looking to the United States as a model of innovation and enterprise, not Brussels.
“At a time when Starmer and Rachel Reeves have already managed to kill economic growth with their disastrous tax-hiking budget, this EU renegotiation is taking Britain in completely the wrong direction,” Johnson wrote.
“Labour Took Power by Deception”
The former Prime Minister did not hold back in his condemnation of Labour’s governance. Accusing Starmer of lacking a mandate for his EU negotiations or recent tax rises, Johnson said Labour’s ascent to power was built on “bare-faced lies” and a deliberate campaign of deception.
A Call to Action
Concluding his column, Boris issued a rallying cry for all who value democracy and Britain’s economic future to stand firm against Labour’s plans. “We must respect the law and the constitution,” he wrote. “But I call on everyone who cares about democracy – and the economic salvation of this country – to fight, fight, and fight again for the freedoms the people voted for in 2016, and which they believed were secure.”
Johnson’s words are sure to galvanise Brexit supporters as fears grow that Labour’s negotiations could reverse key achievements of Britain’s withdrawal from the EU. The battle for Brexit’s legacy, it seems, is far from over.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
